it is with enormous pleasure that we welcome this collection of glassware to the Fredericks & Mae family! Each glass has a hand twisted rim of black/white glass - a sort of unique, irregular halo - and the straw is a totally tubular twisted delight. We wish you sweet sips from here on out.
There is an argument to be made for "the anonymous object" - a thing that blends in and does its duty with humble, invisible grace. There is also though an argument for objects that parade with flagrant abandon. Sophie Lou Jacobsen is a product designer who makes housewares that ripple, wiggle and jump with gusto.
Jonathan's practice is centered on painting - riotously colorful works that reference punk, camp, pop and craft. These clocks are an aspect of this practice that plays along the boundary of art and design - functioning as paintings, sculpture and timepieces simultaneously.
Most objects tell stories but Laura Fischer's sculptures tell them with a rare grace. These stones, adorned with fine lattice like nets, chronicle the patience, practice and labor of their making. They hum, exuding a kind the calm that we can all use during these troubled times. I think of them like hand held meditations, with greater gravity than their size suggests.
For the first time Fredericks & Mae is offering a bundled package of all the cards and mailers we have in the shop. Its a great way to kickstart a practice of writing and receiving, letters in the mail. A small joy in these strange times.
These brass hands come to us from a pair of hands in Tucson, AZ - Yuyu Shiratori's to be precise. Yes - these hands are hand made. Yes - Yuyu Shiratori is a kind and gentle soul. Yes - your money will be in good hands with these hands. Yes - My hands are small, I know, But they're not yours they are my own... In the end only kindness matters.
When Leslie Buck designed the iconic Anthora coffee cup sometime in the 1960s, did he know he had birthed greatness? When Suzanne Sullivan made a high tea service in homage to that same cup in 2020, we knew at once. This is a 19 piece tea set wrought in porcelain and gold, adorned with that classic blue and white motif - the ultimate high/low high tea.
In May of 2018 we opened our first brick and mortar shop in Brooklyn. Here we curate an ever changing array of artists and designers. Pay us a visit, or explore the shop.
