by Emily Mullin

Emily Mullin was born in Santa Monica, CA - but is now an international woman of mystery.

This piece was created using the raku firing process, a technique originated in 16th-century Japan. Raku is a process in which ceramics are removed from the kiln at volcanic temperatures, and allowed to react with various combustible materials (straw, sawdust, hair, ect...).  The residual heat of the kiln heat ignites the materials and produces striking surface effects—iridescent glazes, metallic lusters, and intricate crazing patterns—each firing yields unique and unpredictable effects.  The interior of this piece has been clear coated to make it water tight.
